What a fun toe-tapping rhythmic story about a young boy and his auntie. “Struttin’ with Auntie Nina down to a club. We’re gonna hear some music and then eat some grub.” But, they’re stuck in the back. They can’t see the drummers and they can’t get a snack. Auntie Nina has an idea. With jazz blaring on the stero, Nina teaches little Jo how to cook. They have their own “jazz for lunch.”
“Playin’ food, streamin’ tunes.”
“Stirrin’ fats, lickin’ spoons.” The two enjoy Nat King Cole slaw, Art Pepper steak, Thelonius Monk fish, Billie Hollandaise sauce, and more!
Inside the covers are short biographies of the following jazz musicians and singers: Harold “Shorty” Baker, Junior Cook, Mary Lou Williams, “Philly Joe” Jones, Art Tatum, Reuben “River” Reeves, “Papa” Jo Jones, Buddy Rich, “Big Sid” Catlett, Art Blackey, Thelonious Monk, Nat King Cole, Jelly Roll Morton, John Coltrane, Art Pepper, Billie Holiday, Dexter Gordon, Ella Fitzgerald, Bessie Smith, and Nina Simone.
