My kids enjoyed this book. In fact, my daughter expressed interest in taking Tae Kwon Do, although the desire was short-lived! The book is about a girl named JoJo who is getting ready for her final test for her yellow belt promotion, which is to break a board with a flying sidekick. Nervous about the test, JoJo visualizes that the piece of wood is the creepy bandit tree in her yard…and she cracks the board in half. JoJo earns her yellow belt and is never again afraid of the “creep bandit tree.”

I read this book to my kids when they were very young. Although they enjoyed the book, I tried to quickly get through the pages with the creepy tree. We talked about how the creepy tree was just in JoJo’s imagination…and not real at all. I would recommend previewing the book before reading it to young children. Read more >>
