On the Caribbean island, young Simon loves to help Pops with his bird hospital. When Simon discovers a flamingo with a broken leg, he knows exactly where to take him. At the end of the summer when it is time to release the mended bird, Simon is sad and has to confront the difficulty of the bird’s independence. Simon misses the flamingo and asks his mother if she will miss him when he must go.
