Juneteenth for Mazie

Written by Floyd Cooper
Illustrated by Floyd Cooper

Juneteenth is the day we remember and celebrate June 19, 1865, when soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas and announced the end of the Civil War, the abolition of slavery, and the emancipation of African Americans throughout the entire United States.

Mazie’s father tells her about her great-great-great grandpa and his fight for freedom and how every year he and others celebrated and remembered. And now, it’s Mazie’s turn to celebrate and remember. This book is a great way to introduce young children to the Juneteenth celebration! Read more >>
