Shante Keys and the New Year’s Peas ~ Gail Piernas-Davenport

Shante Keys and the New Year’s Peas

Written by Gail Piernas-Davenport
Illustrated by Marion Eldridge

This is a great story to read about how different people celebrate New Year’s Day! Shanté’s grandmother forgets their traditional black-eyed peas. So, Shanté sets out to find some. On her quest, she talks to various neighbors in her town about their own New Year’s traditions and invites them to come join her family for dinner so that they can try the peas. This book brought back pleasant memories of having black-eyed peas on New Year’s Day when I was a young girl! Read more >>
